John Elway, also known as “The Duke,” was a dual-sport phenom and Yankees outfield prospect who never made it to the Major Leagues. Luckily for John, he found his groove instead as a Hall of Fame NFL Quarterback. After becoming the overall #1 NFL Draft Pick by the Colts in 1983, and forcing a trade to the Broncos, Elway played his entire 16-season career with Denver from 1983–1998.

Elway finished his career with 51,475 passing yards, 300 passing touchdowns, and 33 rushing touchdowns. He led the Broncos to five Super Bowl appearances, famously capping his career with back-to-back championships in Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII. Following his playing days, he continued his legacy in Denver as a high-level executive, helping lead the franchise to another title in Super Bowl 50.

As a Colorado resident, Elway is a crown jewel of my collection. One of my favorite Elway cards is a dual baseball cards with one of my other favorite players, Tony Gwynn.
