Drafted by the San Diego Padres in 1988, Florie also suited up for the Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, and Boston Red Sox.He was primarily used as a versatile reliever and occasional spot starter, known for a sinking fastball and a competitive edge on the mound. Florie’s career is often defined by his incredible toughness. In September 2000, while pitching for the Red Sox, he suffered a horrific facial injury from a line drive. Despite multiple fractures and damage to his eye, Florie made an inspiring return to the Major Leagues just months later in 2001—a comeback widely regarded as one of the gutsiest in the sport’s history.
